As president, I hope to support our membership and allies as we foster a comfortable, intersectional space for queer students — an organization that respects, includes and advocates for us.
Growing up gay or bisexual can be tough. Being a young transgender person can be even harder. But in recent years, Ireland has come on in leaps and bounds. Organisations like youth support group BeLonGTo and the Transgender Equality Network Ireland Teni have opened up spaces for people to come out at a younger and younger age.
At Trinity University we use these five words not only to define diversity, but also community. We believe that community cannot exist without diversity and that diversity cannot be fruitful without a vibrant community. Trinity is a place where faculty, staff and students value the interplay between community and diversity.
The Stonewall riots of were the birthplace of the Gay Rights Movement internationally. However, it would be a number of years before the movement would reach Ireland. She was succeeded by former President Mary Robinson.
